Small yard, high walls
A walled yard is a sheltered spot for a lawn. A few things help it along.
Light
Grass grows best where it gets a few hours of light. If one corner stays in shade all day, a planter or a few slabs there can look neater than grass.
Drainage
If the yard was flagged, check rainwater has somewhere to go. A slight fall towards the drain keeps the lawn happy. Our guide to swapping slabs or concrete for turf covers the groundwork.
Delivery
Your turf is left at your property or the closest suitable and accessible point, which on many terraces is the back lane gate. Add the lane name and gate details when you order.
Before your turf arrives
- Soil dug over, raked level and firmed, just below the path.
- A sharp knife for trimming along the walls.
- A plank to kneel on, so the soil stays level.
- A hose or full watering can for the first soak.

Will the 10 m² pack fill my yard?
Measure the grass area: length × width. A 3 m × 3.3 m yard is about 10 m², so the pack fits. If yours comes to 12 m², type 12 into the size box instead.
Can a yard that gets little sun have a lawn?
Grass needs some light to grow well. Turf the parts that get a few hours of light a day, and use slabs, gravel or pots in the darkest corner.
Where will the turf be left?
At your property or the closest suitable and accessible point, in the most convenient place we reasonably can where it's possible and safe. You don't need to be in.
