Turf Laying Terms and Conditions
These terms cover the jobs where we prepare the ground and lay your lawn. They're in plain English. If anything's unclear, ask us before you accept your quote.
1. Your quote
Your quote is based on the details, measurements and photos you send us, and on a site visit if we make one. It's valid for the period shown on it, or 7 days if no period is shown.
What's included is what's on your quote. Normally that's ground preparation, fresh turf supplied and laid, and the waste taken away, as one all-in price. Anything not listed isn't included.
If the site, access, size or ground turn out different from what we were told or could reasonably see, we'll explain what's changed and agree any change in price with you before doing the extra work.
2. Booking and paying
A deposit of £100 reserves your date, and it comes off your final bill.
The balance is due on the day work begins, by bank transfer or card. Your quote shows the full price. Turf and materials stay ours until they've been paid for.
3. Cancelling
As you accept your quote online, by phone or away from our premises, the law gives you 14 days from accepting it to cancel. To cancel, tell us by email or phone.
If you'd like your work to take place within those 14 days, we'll ask you to confirm that you want it to go ahead early. If you then cancel before work begins, you'll pay for the turf, materials and costs already committed for your job that we can't recover. Once work has begun on site, your turf and materials have been supplied and the team is booked for your job, so the full price is due.
The standard cancellation wording is: "To Tyne & Wear Turf, Unit 3 Britannia House, Brunswick Industrial Estate, Newcastle upon Tyne NE13 7BA, info@tyneandwearturf.co.uk: I/We give notice that I/We cancel my/our contract for the following service: [service], accepted on [date]. Name, address, date."
4. Changes of plan
Your deposit moves with you to a new date, or is kept to cover our costs if you cancel. Turf ordered or cut for your job is paid for. We'll always try to find a new date.
5. Dates, weather and access
We book dates in good faith. Weather, ground conditions, supply or an earlier job running over can move them. If that happens, we'll keep you informed and rebook the nearest suitable date.
A job may not start first thing, and may run over more than one day.
Please give us safe, clear access, somewhere nearby to park and unload, and a water supply.
6. Before we arrive
Please clear the area of furniture, toys and anything else in the way, and keep pets away from the work.
Tell us about any underground pipes, cables, drains, irrigation or similar, and mark where they run. We can't be responsible for damage to anything we weren't told about and couldn't reasonably see.
Work done by you or anyone else, such as groundworks or drainage, is that person's responsibility.
7. The turf
Turf is a natural, living product. Its colour and texture vary with the season and from roll to roll. If a variety isn't available, we may use a comparable alternative of similar quality.
8. Looking after your new lawn
New turf needs thorough, regular watering and care after it's laid, and we'll give you aftercare guidance to follow.
How well it establishes depends on watering, weather, soil and use, which are outside our control once it's laid. So we don't guarantee that it will take, and we don't give a time-based guarantee.
We lay every lawn with reasonable care and skill. If anything doesn't look right, tell us as soon as you can, with photos, and we'll do what we reasonably can to help.
9. Photos and popping back
We may take photos and videos of the garden before and after, for our records and marketing. We focus on the lawn, not people or house fronts. If you'd rather we didn't use them for marketing, tell us before we start.
We may also pop back after the job to see how your lawn is doing.
10. Our responsibility to you
We're responsible for loss you suffer that's a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or not using reasonable care and skill. We're not responsible for loss that wasn't foreseeable, or for business losses.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law doesn't allow it, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Nothing affects your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
11. Your details, updates and the law
We use your details as set out in our privacy notice.
We may update these terms. The version given with your quote, or on this page when you book, is the one that applies to your job.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
