The Back Yard Pack: 10 m² for Walled Yards

Ten square metres. That's the yard behind a lot of terraced houses once the slabs or gravel come up, a front strip, or a patch of lawn that needs refreshing, and it's exactly what this pack is for.

Ten rolls of turf stacked in front of a blue back gate

How much turf do you need?

–

One roll covers 1 m². Orders start at 20 m².

What you get in the Back Yard Pack

  • 10 m² of fresh Northumberland turf
  • Rolls of about 1 m² each
  • Cut to order for your delivery day
  • Delivered to your property, or collect it
  • Price for your postcode shown before you pay
  • The same fresh turf as every order, whatever the size

Yards this pack suits

  • A single walled terraced yard, once slabs or gravel are lifted
  • A front strip between the bay window and the garden wall
  • Patching up a tired or dog-worn bit of lawn
  • A square of green beside a small patio
  • Anything that measures a bit under 10 m² (length × width), leaving spare for edges

Getting it through the gate

Rolls can be carried one at a time, so they'll go anywhere you can walk. If your yard gate is narrow, carry them through upright rather than flat.

Narrow gates and steps

Got steps down from the lane into the yard? Stack the rolls at the top, then pass them down. Two people make it quick, one person just takes a few more trips.

Keep the stack close to where you'll start laying, so you're not walking back and forth over freshly laid turf.

Before you lay it

Turf needs proper soil to root into. If your yard was concrete or slabs on hardcore, break it out or build up a soil bed on top. Around 100 mm of decent topsoil is a sensible minimum.

Rake it level, firm it with your heels, then rake again. Make sure rain has somewhere to drain before the turf goes down.

Will 10 m² cover my yard?

Multiply length by width. If you're a little under 10 m², this pack covers it with some spare for trimming edges.

Can I carry the rolls myself?

Yes. Carry them one at a time and lift with your legs. Most people manage fine on their own.

Can it go in the back lane?

Back lanes are something we deliver to week in, week out. The driver leaves your turf at your property or the closest suitable and accessible point, which on some terraces may be the back lane. Add any access notes when you order.

What if there's concrete under my slabs?

Break it out or build a soil layer on top; turf needs a proper soil bed to root into.
