Long, thin and up the hill
A long garden behind a terrace is easy to measure: length times width, then take off any path or patio. If it slopes, measure along the ground rather than straight across, so you order enough.
Laying down a slope
Lay the rolls across the slope, not up and down it, and stagger the joins like brickwork. On the steepest bit, pin each roll with a couple of turf pegs so it doesn't creep before it roots. Water gently, so it soaks in rather than running off down the garden.
Stony ground and old outbuildings
Dig over a garden here and you'll often find stones, and sometimes the base of an old coal house or outhouse.
Removing old coal-house bases
Break out any old concrete bases and clear the rubble, then top the area with fresh soil so it sits level with the rest. Elsewhere, rake out the bigger stones and add a few centimetres of topsoil before laying.

Some lanes here end at a field or a footpath rather than another street. In the order notes, say which end of the lane your property is nearest, and anything else about parking or access. The basket only offers open delivery days; order by 2pm the working day before at the latest, but as far ahead as you can to avoid disappointment.
